Akubras & origami

Last night the temperature got down to 20 degrees – unheard of for this time of year.  This morning it’s a pleasant mid 20s – but it heats up by lunchtime.

My morning is spent finishing the stories from my field trip and doing the research for a funding proposal.  After lunch met with Jan and Pat to pull the proposal together.  Yes – there is a lot of discussion about water and sanitation.  Our proposal will focus on providing clean water supplies to the highland areas remote villages.  The key consideration is to implement solutions appropriate to the ethnic people; their habits and beliefs are different to the Khmers so a bespoke solution is necessary.

After work I join the Aussie contingent at the Australian Embassy.  Akubra is hosted by the social club on the first Friday of the month.  It’s a relaxed crowd of about 50 people, 50% embassy staff and partners, and the rest ex-Pats from other industries  including quiet a few strays from the American Embassy.  I meet some really nice people and have discussion on everything from the customs around Khmer New Year to the footy.  I also pick up tips of good places to watch the Swans match on Sunday

Finish the evening with dinner at a fabulous Japanese Restaurant, Origami, with some of the Embassy people
