Team lunch

Didn’t sleep too well last night.  Found it hard getting up when alarm rang @ 6,30.  Lately I’v been collected for work in one f the CARE cars.  Its a more comfortable ride – but I do prefer the CARE Tuk Tuk.  In an open vehicle you really feel the city’s energy in the peak hour.  It amazes me how everyone seems to get to their destination in one piece.  You nudge out into the traffic a bit and voila! cars, bikes, motos sort of merge around you.  It works.

Today I started looking at CAREs online comms in some detail.  Vannak is the IT Manager and he’s done an amazing job with the Intranet..  As well as being a comprehensive information repository, all CARE’s staff admin is now handled on line.  And I am envious of the single log-on!  The next step will be an external site and I’ll be including some recommendations in my comms plan.

Stav, CAREs Country Director, had the entire team over for lunch at her house – a lovely gesture.  Her apartment is on the top floor of a local building opposite the National Museum.  It’s a lovely view  - the Museum is traditional Khmer architecture and the area is very leafy.  You can already feel the excitement as new year approaches.  Its like the weeks leading up to Christmas in Oz – lots of parties, catching up with friends, significant socialising and the most frequently asked question is “where are you going for the holidays?”  The office is closed next week for 5 days and most people will go home to visit their families.  During lunch the local staff are in peels of laughter frequently – I wish I could understand the conversations – they are having a great time.

Skipped yoga after work and went for a swim instead.  I am terribly tired.  Had a fabulous noodle soup in the little street restaurant next door, watched some TV, early night.  Only 2 more sleeps before Frank is here - very excited about that!
